The short version
This site does not track you. There is no analytics, no advertising pixel, and no script following you around. There is nothing for a cookie banner to ask you about, which is why you have not seen one.
One thing we would rather tell you than leave you to find. The page fonts are served by Google Fonts, so loading a page asks Google for two font files, and that request carries your IP address the way any request to any server does. It sets no cookie and it is not used to profile you, but it is a request to somebody other than us, and we would rather say so than claim a purity we do not have. We may move to serving the fonts ourselves.
When you browse
Our web host keeps standard server logs, which include your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, and your browser’s user agent. These exist so the site can be kept running and secure. They are not used to build a profile of you.
There are no accounts to create and comments are switched off, so the site sets no cookies for ordinary visitors.
When you buy
Checkout does not happen on this site. You are taken to Stripe, which collects your email address, your payment details, and enough location information to work out the right tax. Stripe is the merchant of record for these sales, so Stripe is the party handling that data and it does so under its own privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
We never see or store your card number. What we can see, through the Stripe dashboard, is the record of the order: what was bought, when, roughly where from, and the email address you used.
We use that address for three things and no others: to send you the email containing your course link, to answer questions about your order, and to handle refunds. That delivery email is part of giving you what you paid for rather than marketing, so it is sent whether or not you ever join the mailing list. On your statement the charge appears as LINK.COM* HEPPE-SMITH.
Your workbook answers
The workbook is a PDF you download and fill in on paper or on your own device. It does not send anything anywhere. Nobody reads it, nobody reviews it, and it never reaches us.
If you email us about an order we keep the message so we can deal with it and so we have a record if you come back about the same thing.
The mailing list
There is an optional mailing list, and asking to join it is the only way onto it. Buying a course does not subscribe you to anything, and we do not take your address from the checkout to add you.
If you do join, we ask only for your email address. You will get one message asking you to confirm, and nothing further unless you click it. After that you will hear from us when a new course is published or one of our authors has a new book out, which is a few times a year rather than weekly.
The list is run for us by MailerLite, who store the address and send the messages on our behalf. They act as our processor, under their own privacy policy at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy. Your address may be stored outside your own country, including in the United States and the European Union.
The lawful basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it whenever you like. Every message carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you rather than merely quietening us. We keep your address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
The signup form itself is hosted by MailerLite on their own pages, which is deliberate. It means this site loads none of their scripts, and nothing about you reaches them unless you choose to follow that link and type your address in.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Email info@heppesmithpublishing.com and we will deal with it. For anything held by Stripe as merchant of record, we will point you to the right place, since some records have to be kept for tax and accounting.
Changes
If this site ever starts using analytics or collecting email addresses, this page will be updated to say so before that happens, and the date at the top will change.
